North American Bio Forum 2010

The Laval Technopole International Business Centre, in collaboration with the Laval Biotech City and its partners are pleased to present the North American Bio Forum 2010 on September 1-2. This event will host over 20 biopharmaceutical companies from the U.S. in order to meet with 5 contract research companies of Laval.

Université de Montréal

The first phase of the Cité du Savoir is now under way, with the construction of a Université de Montréal building - a $51.2-million project that will make it possible for this university to considerably increase the number of courses it offers on our territory, starting in the fall of 2011.

The building currently under construction on boulevard de l'Avenir will be an imposing one: 6 floors covering an area of 20,500 square metres, which will house 45 classrooms, including 23 multimedia ones as well as 4 amphitheatres, 1 library, laboratories, etc. There will also be parking facilities for 300 vehicles and a tunnel connecting the building to Montmorency metro station.

Drinking Water Treatment Plant

Major renovations are currently under way at the drinking water treatment plants in Chomedey, Pont-Viau and Sainte-Rose. Within the next three years, investments of almost $200 million will be injected into modernizing them, in cooperation with the government.

Tree Planting

Following close on the heels of Laval's 40th anniversary in 2005, the City planted nearly 250,000 trees and other vegetation on a number of autoroute ramps. Laval is continuing on, by planting thousands of trees each year (6,000 in 2009). These trees will help relieve the heat islands and cut down on noise in the surrounding area, in addition to sprucing up the main highways in a number of areas of the City.

Cosmodôme Exhibition to be Revamped

Thanks to a joint investment of $10.5 million with the Québec government, the exhibition at the Space Science Centre is in the process of being completely redesigned. The new exhibition will be a sensory, intellectual and entertaining experience. The Cosmodôme is open during this work, which is expected to continue until 2011.
