Regional Delights

Discover Local Products

Laval represents an area of 245 square kilometres. The island produces such an array of horticultural and garden products that it has earned the undisputed title of Flower & Garden Capital of Quebec. There is simply no better place to discover and appreciate the authentic taste of regional products than via Laval's farm-holiday and garden tourism tours.

Nature lovers will appreciate the charm and products of the tour Les Chemins de la nature that includes flowers, vegetables, fine herbs, honey and goat cheese. You can also discover La Venue des Récoltes: retail greenhouse outlets, farmer's stands, pick your own strawberries, raspberries and apples. Don't forget to visit the Château Taillefer Lafon in Sainte-Dorothée: the first Quebec vineyard to be authorized to use the "château" designation.

The Pleasures of Apple-Picking

After all the excitement of summer, the fall is more conducive to outdoor family activities. And what's more fun than going apple-picking? On our territory, three apple orchards will let you pick your own apples. A wonderful opportunity to spend time with family and friends. You don't need to drive very far to find the best kinds of apples!

Agri-Food

Why is it so important to buy local products? It is because thanks to this good practice, we assure the continuity of our agri-food industry. To buy directly from the grower is a fair action because the producer receives a fair price for his product. It is also an ecological choice that assures the food freshness because fruits and vegetables are lightly packed (if packed at all) and do not travel thousands of kilometres before arriving in your plate. By reducing the transport, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

To eat local, we need to change our consumer habits, but this change is very gratifying. If every Québec family bought for $20 more a week of local products, no less than 100 000 jobs would be created in Québec. On the île Jésus, we count about forty farmer kiosks. We can be proud of the quality and variety of Laval agri-food products.
