Département de Sécurité Incendie

Laval's Département de sécurité incendie has nearly 250 employees spread out in various administrative units and at nine fire stations. Its role is to prevent and fight fires and to take action in times of disaster and other emergency situations, such as floods, spills of hazardous materials and other such occurrences.

Analysis and search for solutions
The Départment de sécurité incendie searches for durable solutions to fire safety problems on Laval territory. It concentrates on the causes of fires and helps along cooperation with the citizens and community bodies in problem analysis and search for long-term solutions.

The role of the department is to maintain the number of disasters and amount of the losses as low as possible. This mandate divides in two objectives: prevention and intervention.

The prevention
As for the Division prévention, its role is to see that the buildings on Laval territory meet the requirements of Bylaw L-9000. It conducts various awareness campaigns aimed at preventing fire hazards and ensuring occupants' safety.

The Division prévention also establishes standards and regulations and makes sure they are observed.

Division Prévention

The Division prévention is there to assure the safety of the population and for enforcement. As part of its mandates, it proceeds to the inspection of buildings, it encounters with the community to bridge the gap and it also emphasizes on prevention.

The inspectors, present in three districts, verify the commercial and industrial establishments, educational establishments, daycare centres, reception and care centres and residential buildings. These visits allow identifying abnormalities and correcting them in order to avoid losses of life and reduce fire risks.
